First results of monitoring of stand structure changes in unmanaged beech stands in NP Plitvice Lakes I S S

چکیده
Background and purpose: It is possible to monitor and study the natural growth and development of the forest ecosystems in the example of protected forest stands, which were excluded from management, and which are not under a negative influence of human activity. Therefore the aim of the research through the repeated measurements is to estimate the stand structure development on the Medveđak permanent experimental plot in the Plitvice Lakes national park area. In this paper we presented the first preliminary results of established monitoring, i.e. comparison of results of stand structure elements between two measurements (1998 and 2008). Furthermore, obtained results were compared with data from growth-yield tables for common beech stands similar characteristics as researched stand. In this case data from growth-yield tables present managed pure beech stands.

Allometric Equations of Beech (Fagus orientalis L.) Biomass in Managed and Unmanaged Stands in Safarood's Forest, Mazandaran Province
Biomass measurement is important in terms of ecological and economical evaluation of the structure and conditions of habitat and can provide an estimate for carbon sequestration in different organs of tree. In order to assess the amount of biomass in harvested and unmanaged Beech stands, two compartments (511 and 514) of Safaroodchr('39')s forest were selected. A plot of 6.25 hectare from e...
متن کاملDetermination the structure of oriental beech, Fagus orientalis Lipsky stands (Case study: Asalem watershed forests, north of Iran)
Modification of stands’ structure and managing them using silvicultural methods close to nature and single selection system require information on status of structure, determining the target diameter, basal area and suitable volume to result in long-term equilibrium and sustainability. So, this study was conducted using the selection sample statistical method by selecting five 1-ha sample plot...
متن کاملPlant Biodiversity under Impact of Slope Position in Managed and Unmanaged Beech Forest of Asalem-Gilan
This study was carried out in managed and unmanaged Fagus orientalis L. (beech) stands in the Asalem beech forest in order to compare the composition and diversity of plant species. Three V-shaped catena landforms were selected for each stand. Then, large quadrats, 400 m2 area, with selective method and within each of them, small quadrats, 4 m2 area, were established along each catena and slope...
متن کاملCanopy gaps characteristics and structural dynamics in a natural unmanaged oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) stand in the north of Iran
Canopy gaps are one of the most important structural features of forest ecosystems, and studying of them can have useful results and implications for forest management. The aim of this study is investigation of characteristics and regeneration within canopy gaps in an intact beech stand in the Shastkalateh Experimental Forest of Hyrcanian region, north of Iran. All canopy gaps and related fores...
متن کاملThe Contribution of Managed and Unmanaged Forests to Climate Change Mitigation—A Model Approach at Stand Level for the Main Tree Species in Bavaria
Forestry-based carbon sequestration projects demand a comprehensive quantification of the different climate change mitigation effects. In our study, we modeled a life cycle of managed pure stands consisting of the four main tree species in Bavaria (spruce, pine, beech and oak). For spruce and beech, an unmanaged stand was additionally integrated in order to analyze the differences in climate ch...
